Congratulations to the Winners of the 2022 BCU Scholarship!

BCU Financial recognizes the importance of education and volunteerism in shaping our youth’s character and empowering them to build a better future. Every year, BCU Financial awards scholarships to members of our credit union who are enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate university program or college program and demonstrate academic achievement and community leadership.

On September 16, 2022, we were happy to announce the 2022 BCU Scholarship winners! The Award Ceremony was held at the Old Mill Toronto. The winners were selected by qualified members of the Scholarship Committee who are experts in various fields and active in the community. The members of the 2022 Scholarship Committee were: Dr. Jaroslav Skira, who represented the academic community; Marc Marzotto, a business representative; Natalia Tershakowec, an activist of Plast Canada; Bohdanka Hontar, a well-known member of the Ukrainian Youth Association; and Ivanna Baran-Pyrkis, a representative of BCU Financial. The Committee was chaired by Nadiya Kuz, a Member of the Board of Directors of the Scholarship Committee. While opening this significant event, Ivanna Baran-Purkiss, Member of the Scholarship Committee and Head of the People, Communications, and Community in BCU Financial, welcomed not only the recipients of the scholarships but also their parents and friends. She also expressed gratitude to Anna Jacyniak, Community Relations and Creative Coordinator of BCU Financial, for her hard work in preparation for the ceremony and the Old Mill Toronto for the hospitality and for providing a welcoming home in our community.

The 2022 BCU High School Scholarship awards $1,000 to students who have been accepted into an undergraduate program. The BCU High School Scholarship 2022 was awarded to Michael Taranko (Brock University – Bachelor of Science, Combined Mathematics and Computer Science Co-op) and Julian Mojsiak (The University of Western Ontario, Bachelor of Engineering/Ivy Business School). The BCU Scholarship awards up to four awards of $2,000 for any field of study. At the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, one scholarship is designated for a student of Ukrainian studies. The 2022 BCU Scholarship was awarded to Darij Starko (York University, Ph.D. in Physics), Nicole Hupalo (University of Toronto, Commerce and Psychology), Oleh Reive (University of Toronto, Faculty of Law, Juris Doctor), Nika Ruzycky (University of Windsor, Faculty of Law, Single JD Program), Marko Bajus (Carleton University, Masters in European, Russian and Eurasian Studies). The Wolodymyr Klish Memorial Scholarship awards one scholarship of $2,500 to a student of Business/Finance. The 2022 Wolodymyr Klish Memorial Scholarship recipient is Michael Panczenko (Toronto Metropolitan University, formerly Ryerson University, Business Management – Global Management Studies).

During the ceremony, Andrew Tarapacky, Chair of the Board of Directors of BCU Financial, emphasized that today, during a brutal Russian war against Ukraine, it is vital for us to be proud of our identity and support Ukraine. Nadiya Kuz, Head of the 2022 Scholarship Committee, emphasized that their example will inspire future generations of young people to set high goals and achieve them. BCU Financial expresses sincere gratitude to the Members of the 2022 Scholarship Committee for their work in selecting the winners and to the students and their families for their active involvement in the community.
